Heads-up display helmet
A soon-to-be-launched motorcycle helmet with heads-up display (HUD) has broken a crowdfunding site record. Having raised $2,278,049 (£1.4m) in contributions, over 900% more than their initial $250,000 (£150,000) goal, the SKULLY AR-1 is IndieGoGo’s most successful ‘wearable’ campaign.
Dubbed as ‘The World’s Smartest Motorcycle Helmet’, the AR-1 features a transparent HUD unit that displays at a perceptual distance of 10 feet in front of the rider, a near 180-degree rearview camera, turn-by-turn GPS navigation, smartphone pairing and voice control.
It’s also capable of streaming music and hands-free calling.
The US-built helmet can be pre-ordered now with international shipping for $1,499 (£925), with an estimated delivery date of May 2015.
More than 1,700 AR-1s have been sold since the campaign began on 11 August, 2014, with SKULLY offering a number of different pricing and financing options to early buyers.
Founder and CEO of SKULLY, Marcus Weller, said: ‘We continue to be blown away by the outpouring of interest and support for the SKULLY AR-1,
‘The campaign has been a tremendous success and has been a true testament to the desire for innovation in safety technology. We look forward to delivering the AR-1 to the SKULLY nation next year.’
The helmet is available in matte black or gloss white in sizes S-XXL.
