Last year’s SIC Ohvale Junior Championship champion, Qabil Irfan Azlan continued to show greatness by winning the FIM MiniGP Malaysia Series 2022 premier competition at the Sepang Kart International Circuit here today; thereby booking a ticket to represent the country at the FIM Mini World Finals stage, which will be held in Valencia, Spain next month.
Amassing 236 points from five rounds, 10-year-old Qabil will be joined at the world junior championship by Adi Putra, who emerged as overall runner-up in this season’s FIM MiniGP Malaysia Series by collecting 183 points to win the right to race in Valencia and together pursue the dream of becoming world champion.
After five rounds and 10 races this season, Akif Abdullah is third overall in the series with 145 points. Sharf Muhriz ranked fourth with 122 points and Shah Putra in fifth place with 92 points.
As in previous rounds, Qabil, who hails from Terengganu, showed that he is in a different class to the other riders in this season’s championship by setting the fastest time in the qualifying session to collect another Pirelli Pole Position Award before winning Race 1 with comfortable; with an advantage of 3.352 seconds over the second winner of the race, Sharf Muhriz. What’s more, Qabil also set a new record for the fastest lap in the championship with a time of 55.831 seconds around the 1,247 meter circuit during today’s practice session.
