In line with the Prime Minister’s commitment to revitalize the national economy as well as improving the quality of life of the people, the Ministry Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change will provide focus on the exploration of new areas or economic resources such as renewable energy or green economic chain development (green value chain development) including the development of the EV field to attract new investment as well as creating new job opportunities of high value to the people.
Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, YB Tuan Nik Nazmi bin Nik Ahmad, in his speech during the Launch Ceremony Bangi Golf Resort EV Charging Station and License Surrender Public Distribution of EV Charging Systems by the Energy Commission to EV Connection Company Sdn. Bhd., has stated that, Efforts will be made to reduce the country’s carbon footprint through energy transition step, which is the focus to the implementation of 3D initiatives namely Digitalisation, Decentralization and Decarbonisation will be the main focus. This energy transition effort is important because the energy sector accounts for about 80% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in Malaysia.
He also shared that, energy transition efforts that will be implementated requires strong support from various parties especially the private sector. Therefore, a joint venture between Gentari Sdn. Bhd. (subsidiary of PETRONAS Company) and EV Company Connection Sdn. Bhd. in developing EV charging infrastructure this needs to be expanded further so that it will speed up the transition to the use of EVs in this country.
In addition, he also stated that, to ensure that electricity supply infrastructure including EV chargers which developed in this country is safe and complies with standards the highest security, the Energy Commission as the provision in under the Electricity Supply Act 1990 (Act 447) will take action regulate based on legal provisions. Among them, The Energy Commission has published a “Guide on Electric Vehicle Charging System (EVCS)” as a reference document for all stakeholders regarding technical requirements and requirements regulatory for the development of EV infrastructure in Malaysia.
Accordingly, YB Minister called for all parties involved in developing EV charging infrastructure to comply guidelines that have been issued to ensure public safety.
Among the things that need to be done is getting a license public distribution from the Energy Commission as which was done by Syarikat EV Connection Sdn. Bhd.
Taking into account that the development of new economic fields based on the 3D concept, for example through the Renewable Energy industry will pattern a new direction of national development, implementation initiatives such as the development of safe EV infrastructure and adhering to technical standards is very welcome. In fact YB Minister too hope that Gentari Sdn. Bhd. as one of the main players in the development of EV charging infrastructure this is also possible join forces with the Ministry to work together exploring aspects of “vehicle to grid” integration to support efforts national energy transition.
