Volvo Buses is showcasing the first-ever fully built Volvo B11RLE 6×2 double deck coach in Malaysia, inviting customers to a Ride and Drive event to experience it firsthand. The event was graced by the Transport Minister of Malaysia and the Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia. This coach is the first fully built Volvo B11R Low Entry 6×2 double deck coach to be operated on the road since its introduction in 2022. The Ride and Drive event was organized jointly by Volvo Buses and its partner, Truckquip Sdn. Bhd. (TQ).
Participants toured the Shah Alam area, experiencing mixed road conditions to gain a full understanding of the newly built Volvo B11RLE double deck coach. According to Mats Nilsson, Vice President of Volvo Buses Asia Pacific, the Volvo B11RLE is the only product model in Asia that is assembled and built in Malaysia, specially designed to meet the expectations of customers, passengers, and local operational needs.
The Volvo B11RLE features the ALPHA DD12 TQ body, providing maximized safety with newly integrated Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and technologies such as Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS), which alerts drivers to momentary sleepiness or distractions. The Alpha DD12 has a wider stance, resulting in a lower center of gravity for better stability on highways, increasing driver confidence and ultimately improving passenger comfort and road safety.
The partnership between Volvo Buses and TQ started in 2015, and this collaboration has resulted in the specially designed Volvo B11RLE 6×2, which is a true glo-cal approach. Tan Keng Meng, Executive Vice President and Group CEO of Warisan TC Holdings Berhad, shared that TQ’s technical team has worked tirelessly over the past year with Volvo’s bodybuilding support and instructions to develop this premium double deck coach.
Sani Express Sdn Bhd has ordered 12 units of the newly built Volvo B11RLE 6×2 double deck coach, which will be delivered throughout the year and put into operation for services between Kota Bharu and Kuala Lumpur. Sani is one of Kota Bharu’s biggest bus operators, providing transportation services, including airport transport, hotel shuttle, intercity and city operations. The Group Managing Director of Sani, Wan Mohd Iskandar bin Dato Salleh, is confident that the newly purchased Volvo B11RLE models will elevate his fleet to a new level by providing outstanding comfort to his passengers for long-distance travel.
