Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM), Malaysia’s leading motorcycle manufacturers, has proudly announced a RM200,000 sponsorship for the Malaysian national men’s and women’s rugby 7s teams, known as BungaRaya 7s, in preparation for the highly anticipated 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).

The sponsorship marks a significant investment in national sports development and youth empowerment, reflecting HLYM’s continued commitment to supporting Malaysian talent on both local and international stages.

Boost for Malaysian Rugby

This strategic partnership with the Malaysia Rugby Union (MRU) aims to elevate the training, facilities, and overall preparedness of both the men’s and women’s BungaRaya 7s squads as they gear up for gold at the 33rd SEA Games, set to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, this December.

The sponsorship covers:

  • Team training and travel expenses
  • Equipment and gear
  • Nutrition and performance support

Speaking at the official announcement ceremony, Mr. Dato’ Jim Khor, Managing Director of HLYM, said:

“We are proud to support Malaysia’s elite rugby athletes as they represent our country on the regional stage. Just as Yamaha powers riders with performance and passion, we believe in powering our national rugby teams toward excellence and victory.”

Strengthening Yamaha’s Community Commitment

HLYM’s involvement with rugby is a natural extension of its longstanding commitment to promoting discipline, teamwork, and performance — values that align with both high-performance sports and the Yamaha brand.

The BungaRaya 7s squads are known for their speed, strategy, and resilience — qualities mirrored by Yamaha’s popular motorcycle line-up such as the Yamaha Y15ZR, Y16ZR, MT-15, and R15M, which are especially popular among younger, dynamic Malaysians.

Ready for Battle in Bangkok

With this new injection of support, the BungaRaya 7s men’s and women’s teams are expected to undergo intense centralized training and participate in international friendlies in preparation for the SEA Games.

Malaysia Rugby President, Encik Amir Amri Bin Haji Mohamad expressed his gratitude to HLYM:

“This sponsorship is a game-changer. With enhanced resources, our players can now focus fully on improving performance, strategy, and building synergy for the SEA Games.”

🏆 Yamaha x BungaRaya — Powering Towards Gold

The RM200,000 sponsorship is more than just funding — it’s a symbol of belief in Malaysia’s athletic potential. With Yamaha’s support, BungaRaya 7s is now better equipped to make an impact at the 33rd SEA Games and inspire the next generation of sports enthusiasts.

As rugby continues to grow in popularity across Malaysia, this collaboration between HLYM and MRU could set a benchmark for future private-sector involvement in national sports development.
