Gresini Ducati rider secures his third win of the season at Sepang International Circuit
Alex Marquez delivered a flawless performance at the Malaysian MotoGP 2025, dominating the race at Sepang International Circuit to claim his third victory of the season. The Spanish rider crossed the finish line over two seconds ahead of compatriot Pedro Acosta, cementing his place as the runner-up in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship behind his brother, Marc Marquez.
Marquez Conquers Sepang Heat for Third Win of the Season
Riding for Gresini Ducati, Alex Marquez showed exceptional pace and consistency under Sepang’s blistering heat and humidity. After victories earlier this year at the Spanish GP and Catalan GP, this triumph marks his first win outside Spain in 2025.
Honda’s Joan Mir completed the podium in third, while Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo rounded out the top five finishers. Newly crowned World Champion Marc Marquez was absent due to a season-ending injury.
Bagnaia’s Strong Start Ends in Disappointment
Francesco Bagnaia, who started from pole and won Saturday’s Sprint Race, got off to a promising start, leading through the opening lap. However, Alex Marquez made a decisive move early on lap two—sliding past Bagnaia through a sweeping corner to take control of the race.
Bagnaia then found himself under heavy pressure from Pedro Acosta, as the front three broke away from the rest of the field. By the halfway point, Marquez had extended his lead while Bagnaia focused on defending his position.
Acosta eventually broke through on lap 13, overtaking Bagnaia to move into second. Unfortunately for the Ducati factory rider, mechanical issues forced him to retire in the closing laps, ending what could have been a podium finish.
Marquez Unstoppable at Sepang
While the battle for second raged behind him, Alex Marquez maintained a commanding lead to take the chequered flag in 40 minutes 09.249 seconds. The victory not only highlights Marquez’s growing form but also reinforces Gresini Ducati’s competitiveness heading into the final rounds of the season.
