Round 5: Bagnaia’s Brilliant Win at Jerez
Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia delivered a masterclass performance at the Spanish Grand Prix, taking a spectacular victory at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto. The reigning two-time MotoGP world champion stormed to his third consecutive full-race win at Jerez, setting a new race lap record (1’37.449) in the closing stages. This crucial victory not only showcased his exceptional racecraft but also closed the gap to championship leader Jorge Martín to just 17 points.
Bagnaia’s Perfect Race Execution
Starting from 7th on the grid, Bagnaia made a lightning-fast launch into Turn 1, immediately climbing to 4th. He then pulled off a sensational double overtake on the outside at Turn 6, followed by a decisive move at the final corner, taking the race lead by the end of lap one.
From there, Bagnaia controlled the race, initially chasing Jorge Martín, until the latter crashed out with 15 laps to go. With five laps remaining, Marc Márquez launched a late charge, but Bagnaia fended off every attack before delivering a stunning final push, setting the fastest lap of the race and securing a dominant victory.
Bagnaia’s Reaction
Francesco Bagnaia (#1, Ducati Lenovo Team) – Race Winner:
“Simply fantastic. We needed this win—not just for me, but for the whole team. The start was crucial, and that overtake on the outside was one of my best. When Marc closed in, I waited for his attack, defended immediately, and then pushed to create a safe gap. Setting the fastest lap at the end was the perfect way to seal the victory. Winning three full races in a row here makes it even more special.”
Championship Battle Heats Up
With Martín crashing out, Bagnaia is now just 17 points behind the championship leader, with teammate Enea Bastianini sitting in third place, five points further back. Ducati remains at the top of both the manufacturers’ (133 points) and team standings (145 points).
Next Stop: Le Mans
Following an official test at Jerez, Bagnaia and the Ducati Lenovo Team will head to Le Mans for the French GP on May 10-12. With momentum on his side, can Pecco continue his charge toward the top of the standings? Stay tuned!
