Enea Bastianini Dominates Silverstone for First Sunday Victory of the Season
Enea Bastianini delivered a sensational performance at the Monster Energy British Grand Prix, securing his first full-distance race win of the season at Silverstone. After winning the Sprint race on Saturday, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider backed it up with a flawless ride on Sunday, marking his maiden double victory in MotoGP’s 75th anniversary race.
A Hard-Fought Comeback to Victory
Starting from third on the grid, Bastianini launched well into second place at Turn 1, but a couple of early mistakes saw him drop back. However, as the race settled, he found his rhythm, first overtaking Aleix Espargaró before setting his sights on Jorge Martín and Francesco Bagnaia at the front.
With seven laps to go, a small error from Bagnaia allowed Bastianini to snatch second place, putting him one step closer to victory. Despite a one-second gap to Martín, Bastianini unleashed unmatched pace in the final laps, closing in and executing a decisive overtake on the penultimate lap. He ultimately crossed the line with a 1.9-second margin, securing a dominant victory.
Bastianini Reflects on His Breakthrough Win
“It was a difficult race, as I made a few mistakes in the first two laps and lost some ground. Then, I was able to find the right confidence to get back to the leading group. I bridged the gap to Aleix, who was not easy to pass, and then to Pecco. In the last four-five laps, Jorge was pushing really hard, and it wasn’t easy to catch him. It’s a fantastic feeling to be back on top of the podium in a Sunday race.”
This crucial win strengthens Bastianini’s hold on third place in the championship standings, closing the gap to the top to 49 points. With momentum on his side, he now looks ahead to the next round in Spielberg, Austria, aiming to continue his impressive form and fight for more victories.
