“Loud Pipes Save Lives” is one of the most common motorcycle myths. … Unfortunately, there is no study about the sound contribution to the conspicuity of the motorcyclists, so we don’t have scientific proof to confirm or disprove our theory….. but…….
Past few days the crackdown on illegal exhaust and modification has begun in Malaysia.
The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) will carry out a comprehensive operation of Exhaust Modification Ops starting Monday, including in residential areas.
Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Superintendent Azman Shariat said the more comprehensive action not only involved roads but also changed locations.
“We are also focusing on residential areas including apartments and flats because there are complaints of exhaust disturbances involving many residential areas,” he told reporters after the operation in Bukit Raja, Klang here on Monday
He also advised vehicle owners whether motorcycles or cars that make modifications to the exhaust are asked to change back to the original to avoid action.
According to him, vehicle owners found guilty of modifying the exhaust so as to cause noise and disturbing public order can be prosecuted under Rule 103 which is under the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Rules 1959 (LN 170/1959).
“The individual involved can be imprisoned not more than six months or fined not more than RM2,000,” he said.
Meanwhile, the operation which was held starting at 10 am was also joined by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Department of Environment (DOE).
Crackdown on mod exhaust could land the offenders RM2000 in fines or 6 months jail.
Riding a standard motorcycle is fine but modification is a crime!
