LOUD AND NOISY EXHAUST CAN BE FINED RM2000 AND 6 -MONTHS JAIL!

KUALA LUMPUR – Motorcycle owners who modify vehicles using noisy exhausts can be fined not more than RM2,000 or jailed for not more than six months.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Azisman Alias ​​said, under Rule 103 of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Rules 1959 (LN 170/1959) every exhaust (silencer) installed on a motor vehicle should be on all the time maintained to be in good condition.

According to him, it should also be ensured that it is not modified so as to cause noise.

“Any person who makes such a modification is committing an offense and if convicted of the offense can be punished with a fine not exceeding RM2,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months imprisonment,” he said in a statement to Sinar Harian on Monday.

Apart from that, Azisman said, under the provisions of Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987, the police were given the power to seize the motorcycle with the aim of preventing further offenses.

He explained that the police can detain the motorcycle until the motorcycle owner takes steps to ensure that the offense does not happen again.

He said, he believes the use of noisy exhaust is a current trend for young people because it is said to increase the speed of the motorcycle and also beautify the physical of the motorcycle.

“JSPT always conducts Integrated Operations with other departments and agencies including the Department of Environment (DOE).

“During the operation, the motorcycle will be measured at the allowable exhaust noise level. If the noise level exceeds the set, DOE will issue a summons compound on the motorcycle owner,” he said.

Therefore, it reminds all vehicle owners not only motorcycle owners but also other motor vehicle owners to comply with the laws and rules of the road involving the modification of motor vehicles.

“Any modifications that are to be done must obtain approval from the Road Transport Department (JPJ),” he said.
