To many Moto2 & Asia talent riders the season, maybe over but fitness training for 2015 never stops. Malaysia MiniGP Club organized a MiniGP Endurance Challenge 2014 with 20 teams participated. Our Malaysian Moto2 riders Hafizh Syahrin and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman teaming up with Shafiq Rasol and Muhammad Helmi from the Shell Advance Talent Cup. Helmi and Rasol was also selected to represent Malaysia in SATC 2015.
The MiniGP Challenge was delayed as heavy downpour made the Elite Speedway Track, but that did not stop the MiniGP enthusiast to start flocking the Elite track as early as 8am. Briefing started at 9.30 and the one and half hour challenge started with a 20 minuted practice and qualifying. i-Moto #77 also had a team in the challenge in Group A.
The endurance challenge pole position was taken by Team Hafizh Syahrin/Shafiq Rasol #27. Team Hafizh Syahrin/Shafiq Rasol on form throughout the event followed closely by Team Azlan Shah/ Muhammad Helmi #63 as the sport continues to grow in popularity. Team Hafizh Syahrin/Shafiq Rasol turned consistently fast times in the drying up track afternoon qualifying session.
The 20 team riders then lined up for a LeMans style start of the race. This challenge is to get as much laps in the 90 minutes. It was Team Syahrin/Rasol#27 who topped the board with the fastest time of 53.494 and completed 92 laps, Team Azlan/Helmi #63 finished second 1 lap behind , Team i-Moto #77 RC Moto/ Eric Chan came in third in the main event.
Group B (Novice) Winner was Team Suhaizarul Suhaizat/Muhammad Akmal #44 completed 86 laps clocking the fastest time of 55.823, second was Team Muhammad Hanis Syafiq/ Muhd Zul Adi/ Mohd Safuan #45 completed 84 laps. In third was Team Adi Narong/ Mohd Nor Fadzril.
Masrul Mahidin spokesperson for PiTRiDES says that he wanted to test the 150cc Kayo MiniGP to its limits in the one and half hour endurance challenge. PiTRiDES will organize more of the club style event.
