Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (MODENAS), Malaysia’s national motorcycle manufacturer and a member of the DRB-HICOM Group, has officially unveiled the all-new Z15GT, its first-ever fully Malaysian-developed supermoped, during the MotoGP Malaysia weekend at Sepang International Circuit.

The launch marks a historic milestone for Malaysia’s motorcycle industry — showcasing a bike engineered, designed, and produced by Malaysians, capable of standing shoulder to shoulder with global legacy brands in the highly competitive 150cc supermoped segment.

Developed over three years and five months by a dedicated team of 31 Malaysian engineers, designers, and technicians, the Z15GT is MODENAS’ most advanced motorcycle to date — the culmination of local talent, world-class training, and homegrown innovation.

Born in Gurun

The Z15GT is the result of in-house R&D led entirely by Malaysians, supported by MODENAS’ technical alliance with Kawasaki Motors Corporation (KMC).
As part of the knowledge transfer program, eight Malaysian engineers trained with Kawasaki in Japan, while others received specialised engine design training in Austria, collaborating with international experts to bring global standards into local manufacturing.

“From sketches in Gurun to validation in Japan and production back in Kedah, the Z15GT is proof that Malaysian talent can compete on a global stage,” said Roslan Roskan, CEO of MODENAS.
“This motorcycle is more than just a product — it’s a statement of intent. MODENAS is ready to stand alongside the world’s legacy brands, delivering innovation, reliability, and pride to Malaysian riders.”

A Fusion of Power, Design, and Heritage

Inspired by Kawasaki’s Sugomi design philosophy — bold, aggressive, and dynamic — the Z15GT also pays tribute to Malaysia’s cultural icon, the Arowana fish, a symbol of strength, pride, and endurance.

The result is a supermoped that blends performance and practicality, equipped with features designed for both enthusiasts and everyday riders:

  • Most powerful engine in its class: 12.5kW @ 9,500rpm

  • Largest fuel tank: 5.7 litres for longer rides

  • ABS braking system: for enhanced safety

  • Smart Key system: for modern convenience

  • Hazard light function and built-in power socket: for daily practicality

“The Z15GT delivers everything today’s riders demand — power, safety, technology, and style — at a value that will surprise the market,” said Jin Inoue, Chief Marketing Officer of MODENA

Built for Malaysians, Ready for the World

Proudly certified as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV), the Z15GT boasts a 78% localisation rate, aligning with Malaysia’s National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP2020) and New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030).

The MODENAS plant in Gurun, Kedah, is capable of producing up to 77,000 units annually on a single line — reflecting the company’s readiness to scale both domestically and internationally.

Deliveries of the Z15GT will begin across authorised MODENAS and Kawasaki dealerships starting 27 October 2025, with a target of 2,250 units per month (or 27,000 units annually) for the Malaysian market.

Looking ahead to 2026–2030, MODENAS aims to export 60,000 units to key markets such as the Philippines, Greece, Türkiye, and Cambodia, positioning itself as a regional motorcycle hub for ASEAN.

Three Bold Colours, One Malaysian Identity

The Z15GT will be available in three striking colours that complement its aggressive design:

  • Graphite Grey

  • Nardo Grey

  • Rosso Red

Each colour reflects the Z15GT’s dual spirit — Malaysian pride and global ambition.

From Gurun to the World

The launch of the Z15GT marks a defining chapter in MODENAS’ evolution — from a national brand to an emerging global contender.

“This is Malaysia’s answer to the legacy brands,” Roslan added. “From Gurun to the world — the Z15GT is more than just a motorcycle. It’s a symbol of Malaysia’s industrial and creative strength.”

The MODENAS Z15GT will be available nationwide from 27 October 2025, at an introductory price of RM8,288 (excluding insurance and registration fees).

Verdict:
The Z15GT isn’t just another underbone — it’s Malaysia’s bold entry into the supermoped arena. Combining Kawasaki DNA with Malaysian innovation, this bike is poised to redefine what “Made in Malaysia” truly means for performance motorcycling.
