Many of you in Malaysia may not have heard about the motorcycle brand TVS Motor from India. TVS is marketed to 62 country and now TVS is in Malaysia, under Daju Motors Sdn Bhd, the official distributor for Malaysia & Brunei.

TVS Motor Company recently launch the MY2020 Apache RR310 India on the 30th of January 2020.

Introduced at the end of December 2017, and an update in 2019 with “ART” slipper clutch, the MY2020 Apache RR310 continues to improve on with electronics & user interaction, while maintaining the same trellis frame, split chassis, engine and faring design, only with a new front double bubble visor and new colour, Titanium Black. The Red edition remains.

The MY2020 Apache RR310 has been updated with four riding modes and a new 5-inch TFT instrumentation, that looks like a phone on the dash. That’s not all…..

The MY2020 Apache RR310 has the same 312.2 cc reverse inclined, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. But the overall kerb weight has increased from 169.5 kg to 174 kg. New updates to the MY2020 is happening more, internally and electronically. Its great as these features a refreshing sign for mass production models.

This is the first time that TVS has implemented ride modes and TFT meter screens on its motorcycle models. Another addon on the MY2020 RR310 is the electronically aided ride-by-wire throttle with the four ride modes, Sport, Track, Urban and Rain, and the modes can be shifted on the fly. The engine is reported to produce 34hp and 27.3Nm of torque in Sport and Track mode. In Urban and Rain modes power is reduced to 26hp and 25Nm of torque.

In Urban & Rain mode, the top speed of the TVS Apache RR 310 is limited to 125 km/h. In Track & Sport mode, which can be activated after 1,000 km of run-in period is completed, the TVS Apache RR 310 has claimed a top speed of 160 km/h but I’m sure it could be more.

New 5-inch TFT instrumentation replaces the LCD unit that comes with SmartXonnect with Bluetooth, now TVS comes out with a Smart bike, which let riders get connected with their machines. It supports turn by turn navigation, call accept (or reject), and ride analytics. Besides that, the display can be extended to an auxiliary screen to allow detailed ride telemetry. The new display also comes with a day and night mode. The My2020 RR310 looks like having a phone planted on the meter cluster and the uniqueness of the TFT is that the position is vertical, and does look like a smartphone attached.

Another electronic update is GTT+ (Glide Through Traffic Plus) a feature that was first on the 2020 RTR Series, now makes part of the equipment list of the new RR 310.

So whats a GTT+? GTT+ aims to reduce rider fatigue since the bike will not need throttle input to move forward, only through clutch release at low speeds during bumper to bumper traffic. The feature works only in first and second gear in Sport and Track mode, and in all gears in Urban and Rain mode.

Riding telemetry can also be accessed via a supporting smartphone application.

And it gets better with the rubbers, the 2020 TVS Apache RR 310’s are “stock tyred” with the TVS Michelin Road 5, which gives the best-in-class wet grip.

Let us hope the MY2020 TVS Apache RR310 will start its onslaught of Apache sports models on to the Malaysia road via TVS Malaysia & Brunei distributor Daju Motors
