ROAD-TEST: 2021 SUZUKI GSXR1000

ROAD-TEST: 2021 SUZUKI GSXR1000

Key Features:

  • Powerful 998.8 engine with Suzuki Variable Valve Timing
  • Advanced Showa suspension and Brembo brakes
  • MotoGP-developed Engine Control Module technology
  • Butter smooth bi-directional quick shifter

The GSX-R name comes from a long history of ultra-high performance motorcycles since 1985 with GSXR750, and in 2001 the GSXR grew to up to the one-litre segment and fast-forward 20 years later  comes the new 2021 GSX-R1000.

With a versatile engine that delivers smoothly and controllably throttle across a broad rpm range. We immediately fell in love with the GSXR smoothcontrollable power and it’s handling.

Suzuki’s compact chassis design delivers nimble handling with excellent suspension feel and braking control, I was ready to conquer the twistiness after the long lockdowns in Malaysia. Electronic rider aids such as traction control and butter-smooth bi-directional quick shifter enhance the Suzuki riding experience. We got the Metallic Matt scheme for our official test from Suzuki Malaysia.

The distinctive, aerodynamic GSX-R bodywork make us slice through the wind on our twisty routes.

Equipped with Showa’s Big-piston Fork plus Brembo T-drive rotors and Monobloc brake calipers the GSX-R1000 is ready for a ride through the twisties on the street. The Metallic Matte Paint scheme with subtle black graphics creates a distinctive stealth look.

The 2021 GSXR1000 is powered by 999.8cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, 4-cylinder DOHC, inline-four engine that produces great top-end power with a strong low- to mid-range pull thanks to the exclusive Suzuki Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system and the highly efficient 4-2-1 exhaust with a revised muffler (well I do suggest that future owners of GSXR, do invest in a carbon slip-on, to reduce the weight). Believe it a not the 199 horsepower and 188nM is fully usable, and won’t give anyone a heart attack!

Advanced electronics include the Suzuki Bi-Directional Quick Shift System as standard equipment, an Inertia Measurement Unit, S-DMS adjustable engine output, and Traction Control* to increase track and street performance.

The Twin-spar aluminium frame is lighter and more compact than the prior-generation GSX-R1000 for nimble handling with a high level of grip when cornering.

Handling is pretty perfect with the Showa suspension combined with ABS front brake-equipped Brembo T-drive rotors (Lotsa trail braking need when riding a Suzuki) and four-piston callipers for extraordinary handling and stopping performance.

Aerodynamic fairing houses a bright LED headlight and Suzuki Ram Air Direct ducts that feed the engine to boost top-end power, easily hitting 270km/h!

The 2021 GSX-R1000 is available in a Metallic Matte Black colour scheme that features complimentary black graphics and wheels. (Stealth mode onz!)

By the way, the 2021 Suzuki GSX-R1000 starts from RM99,289.00.
