Yamaha Motors sneaked peeked the all-new 2021 MT-09, which now grew from the current 847cc to 890cc three-cylinder inline with Euro5 emissions limits. Meanwhile, power rises from 85kW (114hp) to 88kW (118hp).
– new 890cc CP3 engine
– radial master cylinder
– new TFT colour display
– up and down quickshifter
– new headlamp
– new design tank
What we see is the swingarm is different, and there’s no longer a swingarm-mounted licence plate hanger, instead the bike has one hanging from the tail unit, just like the 1st generation MT09.
New cross-spoked alloy wheels weights only a few kilos lighter than the R6 in 2021, too – at the 193kg (wet).
When it comes to styling, the the headlights reveals a single central main beam lamp flanked by a pair of slanting LED strips – giving a very different look to the rest of the MT range. (We still prefer the double projector light of the 2nd Gen)
Since the MT-09 is the bike that leads where other MT models follow, it’s likely that the 2021 model’s appearance will be a template for future MT-07 and MT-10 updates.
