2013 Honda CBR1000RR Repsol Edition (Project LSN)
We started 2015 with a high performance bike to review in the form of a 2013 Honda CBR1000RR Repsol Edition.
This high performance CBR1000RR was so perfectly balanced and intuitive to ride, that it becomes one with its rider to achieving seamless integration. More and more manufacturer are using computer assisted electronic aids to bridge the gap between rider and machine, but in doing so something is lost, the feeling of control is diminished, the reward to the senses faded, the experience compromised. But not the CBR1000RR as the electronic aids of any kind was just a Power Commander and a Dyno quickshifter; No traction Control, no ride modes, wheelie control and no ABS, just pure old school twist of the wrist throttle control.
Do we love it? Oh! Yes we do! It was an old reminisce way back in 1996 when I first rode the CBR900 full throttle at 290km/h in the Shell straight, which actually was my first time to hit over the 280kmh speed barrier.
Young blood that time, the throttle hands was a no brainer to give the 1996 128hp CBR900RR Fireblade all its worth!
Nineteen years later, we ride the 2014 CBR1000RR with 177hp, plus addition 10+ hp on the dyno with SC Project slip-on and a modified manifold (catalyser taken out by the owner Linggam Rammoo) Power Comander, Dyno Quickshifter, Diablo Supercorsa SC tires and next upgrade will be complete Brembo RCS19 master pump and clutch lever, Brembo 320mm floating brake disk, and Brembo 4-piston mono bloc calipers, will give the CBR1000RR Project LSN superb stopping power in the track as Linggam is also a track junkie.
Honda CBR with arguably one of the most balanced sporting platforms available with 999cc pumping out smooth midrange power and torque, and light aluminium frame fitted together with Showa 43mm inverted Big Piston Fork with spring preload, rebound and compression damping adjustability; 4.3 inches travel and rear is Showa Unit Pro-Link balance-free rear shock with spring preload, rebound and compression damping adjustability; 5.4 inches travel provides the CBR1000RR with handling nimbleness this while Pirelli Supercorsa SP2 tires provide the finishing touch.
Confident after some minor adjustment to the quickshifter and tyre pressure we spent a whole Sunday road testing through twisty roads of Kuala Kelawang and back roads of Negeri Sembilan, between rider and machine the experience was perfect. Although I only throttle this Fireblade to 260kmh, but I was told it could reach top speed of 310~315km/h while the meter only shows 299km/h.
And for this dedicated track day goer that’s exactly what the CBR1000RR Fireblade has been given him. ‘Total Control’ with an extra edge.
