SEPANG MOTOGP THIEVES FOUND & ARRESTED

Police seized 42 components and motorcycle accessories worth more than RM75,000 in a series of raids around Sepang and Bangi, arresting six local men.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) police chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkifli Adamsah said the confiscated motorcycle components and accessories belonged to the team involved in the Malaysian Grand Prix (GP) race last November.

“A series of arrests and seizures took place between November 3 and December 12 where we arrested six local 23-year-old men and seized motorcycle items and accessories.

“Among the confiscated items were four branded bags, 26 units of various brakes, seven units of span, three rods, two handle grips, two sets of tire heaters, two branded black jackets, 14 units of screws, six bottles of brake oil and several. other stuff.

“Initial investigations revealed that a suspect had a motorcycle workshop and was understood to sell the stolen goods to motorcycle enthusiasts for repairs,” he told a press conference at the KLC AMC Administrative Building in Sepang today.

At the same time, he said, one component of the accessory was for sale at a lower price than the market price.

“For example, the ‘brake caliper’ is priced at RM600 per unit although the actual price is RM1,000.

“These item are expensive and it is understood that some of the stolen goods have been used on the suspect’s motorcycle, ”he said.

Commenting further, Zulkifli said of the six suspects arrested, two of them were found to be Methamphetamine-positive and had previous records such as motorcycle theft.

“Among the suspects arrested are part-time workers in conjunction with MotoGP 2019 and have a pass to enter the Sepang International Circuit (SIC),” he said.

On November 2, the police received a report from the SIC Security Division regarding the theft case.

SIC chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali previously reported that the incident on the morning of November 1 involved five and six teams missing Moto3 and Moto2 machinery components with Angel Nieto’s team most affected.

Subsequently, three security personnel between the ages of 20 and 30 were called to the KLIA District Police Headquarters on November 3 and detained after questioning to assist in further investigation.
