An exciting day as Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team gears up to start its 2020 MotoGP World Championship campaign with riders Franco Morbidelli (2018 Rookie of the Year) and Fabio Quartararo (2019 Rookie of the Year) unveiling their 2020 Yamaha YZR-M1 at Sepang International Circuit, and on the eve of the official pre-season Sepang Wintertest.
Team Principal, and Sepang International Circuit CEO, YBhg Dato’ Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali, Team Director, Johan Stigefelt, Team Manager, Wilco Zeelenberg, Head, Brand Management, Group Strategic Communications PETRONAS, Khairul Hisham Hj Mazlan, General Manager of Motorsports Development Division & President of Yamaha Motor Racing, Hiroshi Ito and Yamaha Motor Racing Managing Director & Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team Principal, Lin Jarvis together with Franco and Fabio were present at the hot & humid evening unveiling.
A specular rookie season for Fabio Quartataro in 2019, saw Fabio taking the Rookie of the Year and the Top Independent Rider title while taking 6 pole position and 7 podiums in the very first season, Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing (first-ever Malaysian team in MotoGP) took the Top Independent Team, finishing fourth in the overall team standings, with rider Fabio Quartararo taking the Rookie of the Year title.
The 2018 Rookie of the Year Franco Morbidelli and 2019 Rookie of the Year Fabio Quartararo both amassed 307 points between both of them will continue their second season with the squad, eager to deliver even stronger results than those seen last year.
2020 also marks the second year of Petronas as the team’s title partner. The impressive results achieved by the team last season are a testament to the Malaysian energy company’s Fluid Technology Solutions that have powered PYSRT to and six pole positions and seven podiums in its rookie year.
