MODENAS EV Service Plus Centre launched

Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn. Bhd. (MODENAS), a subsidiary of DRB-HICOM Group, together with GIATMARA Malaysia, has officially launched the first MODENAS Service Plus centre at GIATMARA Prima Melor.

The facility will serve as a dedicated maintenance centre for the MODENAS MEV-1 electric motorcycles currently used by Pos Malaysia, while also providing practical training opportunities for GIATMARA’s technical personnel in electric motorcycle servicing.

The launch ceremony was officiated by Datuk Zulfikri bin Osman, Director-General of MARA, and attended by GIATMARA Malaysia CEO Ts. Ahmad Hamdi Ibrahim, MODENAS CEO Roslan Roskan, as well as representatives from Pos Malaysia and other stakeholders.

According to Roslan Roskan, the growth of electric mobility requires more than just introducing EV products into the market.

“Electric mobility must be supported by trained technicians, proper facilities and dependable after-sales services. This collaboration supports the maintenance of Pos Malaysia’s MEV-1 fleet while creating valuable EV skills development opportunities through TVET programmes,” he said.

Established in January 2024, GIATMARA Prima Melor currently offers seven technical training disciplines, including Automotive Technology, Motorcycle Technology, and Electric Motorcycle Technology. To date, the institution has produced 878 graduates and supported 82 entrepreneurs through various development programmes.

The partnership between MODENAS and GIATMARA will also expand beyond Kelantan, with similar service centres planned in Terengganu, Sabah, and Sarawak to support Pos Malaysia’s electric motorcycle operations nationwide.

Under the collaboration, MODENAS provides technical training, servicing procedures, operating standards, and technical support, while GIATMARA supplies workshop facilities, trained personnel, and operational assistance.

The programme covers scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, safety inspections, corrective repairs, and technical support, allowing trainees and instructors to gain exposure to real-world commercial EV servicing standards.

This latest initiative builds upon the MODENAS-GIATMARA partnership established in 2023, which includes technical training programmes, technology transfer initiatives, and the Industrial Centre of Excellence (ICoE) for Motorcycle Technology at GIATMARA Pendang.

The launch of MODENAS Service Plus at GIATMARA Prima Melor represents another important milestone in developing Malaysia’s EV servicing capabilities and preparing the next generation of skilled technicians for the country’s growing electric mobility sector.
