Penang – 01 January 2021

The Penang State JPJ Operations Unit continues to increase enforcement on high-powered and low-powered motorcycles (kapcai) with the focus on modifying and installing accessories without approval around the Seberang Perai district, Penang.

The focus of this enforcement is the modified exhaust, side mirrors installed under the “handle”, the installation of additional HID lights, flashing brake lights, “fancy” and extreme fancy registration number plates, helmets do not follow the SIRIM specifications, removal of the rear brakes and others modifications that do not follow the JPJ specifications.

Exhaust modification by changing the “” silencer “” causes noise and disturbance to the public and this may lead to illegal racing activities. For the use of “fancy” and extreme fancy registration number plates makes it difficult to track the registered owner of the vehicle in the event of a traffic offense, criminal case or collision. The use of HID lights or the installation of additional LEDs without VTA approval other than the original production of the manufacturer (retrofit) causes excessive glare especially at night causing disruption to other road users. For some motorcyclists especially low power (kapcai) there are a few of them remove the rear brake or front brake as a trend. This can lead to accidents causing accidents due to the brake system not working and not being able to function properly.

Riders and motorcycle owners are advised to comply with the rules and regulations, while driving and practice prudent driving to avoid accidents and increase accident statistics involving motorcyclists and pillion riders.
